School of Sanctuary
At St Catherine of Siena school we are proud to be working towards becoming a School of Sanctuary.
Throughout the Gospels Jesus teaches us to ‘Welcome the Stranger’ and to ‘love your neighbour’
Matthew 5:43-44
‘I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.’
John 13:34:
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.
As a school of Sanctuary we educate our children about what it means to be a refugee and an Asylum Seeker, the difficulties they face and how we can support and help. Just as Jesus asks us to do. Through stories and meeting with different groups our children are becoming very aware of the plight of those forced to leave their countries.
Throughout the year we will be supporting the charity:
In February the charity will be visiting school and working in every class.
