Mini Vinnies
Hello! we are the St Catherine's Mini Vinnies, and we're excited to tell you all about the work we do at our school. The Mini Vinnies are a group of young people (just like us!) who want to help make a difference in our school and community by following the values of St. Vincent de Paul. This means we try to live with kindness, compassion, and respect for everyone around us. It’s not only about being nice but also about making a real difference in the lives of others.
Who Are the Mini Vinnies?
Mini Vinnies are students from different year groups (currently Y5 and Y6) who have volunteered to be part of this team. We meet regularly to come up with ways to help people in our school, our local community, and even those far away who need a bit of extra care. Our group is all about putting our faith into action, showing that even kids can make a big impact if we work together!
What Do We Do?
Every term, we choose different projects to focus on. Here are some of the things we do:
-
Fundraising for Charities: We organise cake sales, non-uniform days, and other fun events to raise money for charities. Recently, we collected clothing, food and toiletries for a local homeless charity that supports people in need. Knowing we helped people in our community makes us feel proud and thankful for what we have.
-
Collecting for Those in Need: We run collections for items like food, clothes, and toys. Around Christmas, we gather donations for people who may not have much to celebrate. These donations make a huge difference to families who might otherwise struggle to afford these things.
-
Helping Out in School: In school, we keep an eye out for anyone who might need a friend. If we see someone on their own, we go over and include them. We also help look after our school environment by picking up litter and reminding others to take care of our shared spaces.
-
Supporting the Elderly: Sometimes, we visit local care homes or write letters to elderly people who might feel lonely. They love hearing from us, and it’s nice to know we’re putting a smile on their faces.
How Does This Help Our School and Community?
The Mini Vinnies make our school a kinder, friendlier place. By working together and helping others, we learn how to be better people. These projects also remind everyone that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Our school community is stronger because of the Mini Vinnies. It teaches us all about empathy and the power of giving. We are reminded that we’re part of something bigger, and it feels amazing to know that we’re helping to spread hope and happiness, not just in our school, but in our town as well.
Being a Mini Vinnie isn’t always easy – sometimes it takes a lot of effort and planning – but it’s definitely worth it. We believe that with every kind act, no matter how small, we’re changing the world for the better, one step at a time.
So if you’re in our school and you see a Mini Vinnie, know that we’re here to make things brighter for everyone.
