Learning At Home

Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th September

Miss G. High - Class Teacher

Mrs T. Cranage - Teaching Assistant

Good morning Year Five. This is the home learning for today and tomorrow. Hopefully we will be back into school soon so we can pick back up with our learning. Whilst you are at home, I am going to set you revision tasks to complete. These tasks will help you considerably when we are back into the classroom. It is then that we shall continue with our Year Five learning altogether.

I trust that you are all keeping safe and well and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Take care, Miss High x

This is your timetable. You can complete each activity on the worksheet provided (if there is one), on the computer, on a piece of paper or in a notepad.

Monday

Handwriting practise

-Choose 10 words from the Y5/6 list and write them 3 times. Pay close attention to your handwriting and your ascenders and descenders. Remember to join your handwriting. You should have a copy of these words from last week’s home learning. If not, you can find them here:

Reading skills

Yesterday was Roald Dahl Day therefore your reading work will be based on him today. His books are extremely popular and I’m sure that lots of you have read many of his titles. This activity will allow you to learn about him. You will need to keep this information for your Computing lesson later on.

There are 3 separate texts with questions. The last one with the 3 stars at the bottom is the most challenging text if you would like a challenge this morning. I will let you choose. Make sure that your answers have got as much information in them as possible.

Monday Reading Skills Task (pdf)

Maths

Last week, I set you the task of rounding to the nearest 10 and 100. For today’s Maths work, I am going to ask you to use this prior knowledge to answer word problems which will allow you to revise your reasoning skills.

EXT: If you complete all 3 sheets, I would like you to write some of your own word problems that involve rounding to the nearest 10 or 100. You MUST know the answer to these problems.

Maths Work & Answers

English

Today, you will be completing some SPAG work on expanded noun phrases. We will be using these a lot in our writing this year. How boring would writing be without adjectives and prepositional phrases to describe the noun?

There is a PowerPoint that I would like you to look at and then two separate tasks. For each task, I would like you to complete pages 3 and 4. There is an answer sheet attached for you or a parent to mark your work at the end/ or to help you as guidance.

French

We will be learning French this year every Monday. Today I want you to revise your knowledge of French numbers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsEz58BblMY Listen to this video twice, and join in to practise the pronunciation.

You then have a worksheet to complete.

Science

We will be starting our materials topic when we get back to school. Today, I would like you to explore your households and note down some of the items you find. Then, I want you to think about what the material is that the product is made of. After, are there any scientific words that you can think of which describe the material? This can be presented on a piece of paper how you choose.

Computing

Today I would like you to research the life of Roald Dahl and make a poster on the computer/laptop or tablet. If you cannot access a computer, laptop or tablet this afternoon, I would like you to make your poster on paper.

It would be great if you could include images, text boxes, facts about the author’s life and names of books that he has published.

So far in Maths, we have started our Place Value unit. Today I have given you some varied fluency questions as revision to complete. You will look at the value of digits and how to write the numbers.

Reading for pleasure

Choosing books to read that you enjoy is really important, and something teachers LOVE to see and encourage. Today, before lunch, I would like you to spend some time reading a book that you have at home which you enjoy. It can be a new book, that has caught your eye, or a book that you have already read.

ENJOY!

R.E

First, read the story of Creation https://biblehub.com/childrens/The_Story_of_Creation.htm . If you have your own Bible at home, you can use that instead.

Once you have read the story, I would like you to draw a storyboard of the story on the sheet provided, or in your notepad, on your paper or on the computer. We will draw upon this knowledge in our next R.E lesson in class.

P.E

Last week, we started out circuit training. Remember, P.E is such an important subject which not only helps us physically, but also mentally.

As we are self-isolating, we are unable to go out of the house to exercise. However, we can do a home circuit training which does not require any equipment, just some space either in the garden or house. I will set you a routine and at each station, I would like you to spend 40 seconds. You can then repeat the circuit.

-      Station 1: Plank

-      Station 2: Squats

-      Station 3: Shuttle runs

-      Station 4: Sit ups

-      Station 5: Press ups

-      Station 6: Arch hold (the Superman hold from last week)

-      Station 7: Burpees
