Meet on teams for PSHE/Wellbeing discussion as a whole class

Hi Y6,

The above is a timetable that we will be following whilst we’re in this new period of lockdown. This format will be slightly different from the last time (when we were isolating) as I will still be in school with some of your classmates and will be teaching live from the classroom!

As it was before, it's important that you are ready for each session on time and with the correct equipment; some of you collected exercise books from school when they were offered to you so please use them as much as possible! Each session will also need a pen/pencil, a ruler and any other stationary you can think of! Remember to check the timetable too as you will need some kind of PE kit for PE sessions!

Although working on Microsoft Teams won't be the same as when we're together in class, I know from experience how good you are at home learning. It may be a difficult few weeks away from your classmates but I'm sure we will all be together again soon!

Take care everyone,

Mr Minchin

For our mathematics this week we will be looking at metric and imperial measurement, converting between these and even converting between miles and kilometres! This can be tricky but, alongside our virtual lessons, I'm sure you will find these really simple! Have a look at the links below for our worksheets plus some additional resources if you're finding things tough!

For English this half term, we will be reading another of my absolute favourite books- Treasure Island! This book, written by Robert Louis Stevenson, is considered as 'Classic Fiction' and is also written as a flashback (set after the main event has happened and the character is retelling it). This week we will be completing our cold task about this type of text, before completing predictions and precis about the opening chapters. Later in the week we will be completing some writing in role as the main character.

Try the links below to introduce you to this excellent book!

As many of you know, the season of Lent began this Wednesday. Over the coming weeks we will be learning all about Lent and what it means to Catholics across the world. To introduce the topic we will be looking at the three 'pillars' of Lent: fasting, almsgiving and prayer and what these three words mean and look like. After that we will be looking at the work of CAFOD who do a lot of work for the less fortunate, especially during Lent. Have a look at the links below to introduce what we will be doing over the course of the week.

For science this half term we will be learning all about Evolution and Inheritance. This is a fascinating topic that looks at changes over time in humans and other animals; looking at how we have all adapted to our environments in order to survive.

We will begin this week by finding out what we already know about the topic of evolution and inheritance before, later in the week, looking at some of the characteristics we inherit from our parents. Have a look at the links below to introduce you to this topic!

This half term we will be learning all about the ancient Greeks! This is a brand new topic for Y6 and I cannot wait to get stuck into it with you all! To start you off, I've uploaded a link to introduce you to the topic:

For our lessons this week, we will begin by thinking about what we already know about the ancient Greeks- we will create a spider diagram to show all this knowledge off! After that, we will be creating timelines of the key events from the Greek empire and, later in the week, looking at the inventions that the ancient Greeks created and how they still influence society today!

In school we have been looking at striking and fielding games for PE, with a focus on cricket. As we are unable to do this at home, once again we will be utilising the brilliant Joe Wicks and his 'PE With Joe' sessions. These are uploaded daily and 30 minutes of exercise per day is a very reasonable target! I've uploaded a few links for you to follow, though new sessions will continue to be uploaded.

Obviously you can do alternative forms of exercise at home! We are able to go for walks and runs or create our own HIIT circuits to complete alone, with siblings or even as a whole family! Please let me know what you've been doing to stay active at home!

As you all know, this half term we have been learning about the language of coding. This 'language' has become global and could be the most important language in the future! Last week, we started coding using Javascript by programming our own dance party; this week we will be extending our knowledge of Javascript through some challenges online. Check out the links below and dive into the world of computer programming!

Any questions then please feel free to ask! Please remember to send your work through at the end of each day so that I can check how you're getting on and maintain the brilliant progress you've made so far this year!!

Keep safe and I'll hopefully see you all soon!

Mr Minchin
