WORLD CUP LEGACY TAG RUBGY

WINNERS!

On Wednesday the 21st June at Birmingham Exiles Rugby Club the School Tag Rugby Team played in the World Cup Legacy Tournament against several other schools. Firstly they had to play 4 group games to try and qualify for the ’Gold League’ and the winners trophy.

In the first game they played superbly winning 3 - 0 against Lea Forest. Next up they played St Anthony’s and put in a dominant performance, winning 8 - 2. Our excellent rugby continued for our next two games, against West Heath and Dickens Heath, winning 5-4 and 7-2 respectively. Impressively, they qualified with four superb team performances, scoring 24 tries and  restricting the opposition to only 8!

After qualifying for the ‘Gold League’, we had four more group games against the winners of the other groups. We started against Meadows, which we won 4-2. Next up was Elm’s Farm who, again, we were victorious against, winning 4-1.

Unfortunately, there was a hiccup in our third game, losing 5-4 in the last second to St. Bernadette’s. This meant that we needed to win our last game, against Balsall Common, to win the tournament.

After some pulsating rugby, we won that game 4-3 meaning we were the overall winners!

Overall we scored 44 tries and only conceded 18 tries. A superb effort that also meant we added another rugby trophy to our winners haul.

So well done to the victorious team of: Ibrahim, Harvey, Djibril, Jemahri, Nathan, Adriano, Naaziah, L’Shae, Shelby and Annicia.

Gaelic Football Tournament

On Tuesday 27th June the School Gaelic Football Team took part in their annual competition at  Pairc Na Eireann in Solihull.

There were high hopes for the 6 team city wide tournament and the team played magnificently not letting anybody down.

In their group games they played superbly and beat four out of their five opponents easily: St. Anthony’s 11 - 0; The Rosary 19 - 3; St Thomas More 30 - 9 and then Corpus Christi by 9 - 0. However, against St Ambrose Barlow we lost 18 - 6. This meant we were through to the semi-finals.

In the Cup semi-finals they played superbly against  St Anthony’s and managed to beat them by  21 - 3.  It was a marvellous result and placed the team in the Cup Final where they had the chance to beat one the favourites and defending champions St Ambrose Barlow.

However, playing against a much more experienced Gaelic team they ended up losing by 10 - 4 in a very tough match. It was sad end to the day but the team played really well and could not have played any better.

So well done: Adriano, Annicia, Djibril, L’shae, Jemahri, Nathan, Camarlo, James, Harvey, Ibrahim, Naaziah and Able for being ranked as the 2nd best team in Birmingham — a fantastic achievement!

Catholic Athletics at Alexander Stadium

Well done to the St Catherine’s Athletics team who participated in the Birmingham Catholic Sports on Monday evening at Alexander Stadium.

Pupils from Years 3 - 6 attempted to run faster, jump higher, jump longer and throw further than any of the other competing schools.

The team produced some wonderful performances.

There were 5 sprint finalists:

Michael – Year 3 – 5th place

Joey – Year 4 - 4th place

Joji – Year 5 – 3rd place

Harvey - Year 6 – 1sr place (The fastest boy in Birmingham for the third year running!)

Boys Relay Team: 1st place - Camarlo, Joji, Jemahri, Harvey

Other finalists were:

Boys Long Jump: 2nd place - Djibril

However, everyone in the team contributed brilliantly! We are awaiting the overall results to see where our school came.

BISHOP CHALLONER TAG RUGBY REPORT

This Monday, at Camp Hill Rugby Club the school rugby team played a tournament organised by Bishop     Challoner School. In all four of our matches our team played outstanding rugby, winning all of our games, playing against Heath Mount, St Alban’s, Woodthorpe and St Bernard’s. Throughout the tournament we scored an incredible 49 tries and only conceded 13! This means we are invited to the Summer Games again this year, and hopefully we can continue our unbeaten record for rugby this year!

Once again, Mr Minchin was very pleased with the attitude, behaviour and performance of the team.

A big well done to Ibrahim, Djibril, Nathan, Harvey, L’Shae, Annicia, Courtney, Antwone, Jemahri and Adriano for representing their school so well.

Incredibly, this is the 6th year in a row St Catherine’s have won the Bishop Challoner Rugby Tournament—a fantastic achievement by everyone involved!

CATHOLIC TAG RUGBY CHAMPIONS 2017 6-IN-A-ROW

Last Friday afternoon on the 19th May at Moseley Rugby Club the School Tag Rugby Team played in the Catholic Tournament against several other schools. Firstly they had to play 2 group games to try and qualify from their group.

In the first game they played superbly winning 5—0 against St Anthony’s School. Next up they played St Mary and John’s and in a tight game won 4—3. Impressively they qualified with two superb team performances, scoring 9 tries and restricting the opposition to only 3!

In a tremendous semi-final between two very sporting teams St Catherine’s were magnificent, eventually winning the semi-final by 6—4 beating Holy Cross.

In a tense final we played The Abbey. Another magnificent performance from St Catherine’s saw us score 13 tries whilst only allowing 7 against! Overall we scored 28 tries and only conceded 14 tries. A superb effort that also meant that they became the first Tag Rugby team ever to win the shield 6 years in a row!!

So well done to the victorious team of:Ibrahim, Harvey, Djibril, Jemahri, Nathan, Adriano, Antwone, L’Shae, Shelby and Annicia.

A 6th victory in a row—A superb achievement!

Year 1 and Year 2 Multi-Skills

In May 2017 Year 1 and Year 2 participated against twenty other skills in a variety of multi-skill activities including: running; catching; throwing; balancing and jumping.

Each class member’s performance gained points for their class. Brilliantly, after two astonishing performances both Year 1 and Year 2 were worthy winners and the overall combined winners of the Bishop Challoner Competition for Key Stage 1. All of the pupils were brilliant in their attitude and competitive spirit. During assembly today they received their trophies from Mr McDermott who organised the competition. Well done Year 1 and Year 2.
